According to a recent study conducted by the U.S Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) revealed that at least 700,000 school- going kids are indulging in drinking beer, liquor, and other forms of alcohol from their respective homes.

Children aged 12-14 are getting alcohol directly from their guardians, parents, or an adult relative. Most of these kids get the alcohol for free.

The National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism stated that approximately 5,000 kids and adolescents under the age of 21 die each year due to underage drinking. What’s more, people who began to drink alcohol before the age of 15 are six times more likely to develop alcohol problems.

Parents, guardians or any responsible adult should be aware that introducing or providing alcohol to children can increase the risk for alcohol abuse and might develop addiction issues when they grow older.

Family members play an essential role in reducing alcohol consumption in kids. A good tip is to store their stash of alcohol into places where it is out of reach and too make sure that they are hidden well since children may look for ways to sneak them.

Education is also an important element. Parents should teach their kids about the hazards of drinking alcohol at a young age.
